OUR FIRST OPEN DAY AND ART EXHIBITION - 2004
After taking over the running of Harrington Youth Club we decided to host an art exhibition. This was before we raised funds for improvements/upgrades. The ground floor hall was previously used as a sports area with dark blue painted walls and an untreated floor - ideal for playing football and pool but not so good for displaying paintings.

So, how do you turn a sports hall into an art exhibition area?
Firstly, John built some storage cupboards where we could hide no end of bits and pieces. We then gave the room 2 or 3 coats of white paint. Sheila and Melvyn (a member of the art group) painted the floor!

Iggesund Paperboard Ltd very kindly donated some large cardboard tubes, so Harrington History Group were able to make portable display boards. These are now used by the History Group for their displays and Harrington Youth Club for art exhibitions.

The display boards were then painted.

The artwork was delivered and carefully arranged.

Ready and waiting for the guests to arrive!
(Tony Cunningham MP seems very interested in this painting of the Houses of Parliament!)

Sue and Pete Taylor, the founders of Harrington Youth Club, were amongst our guests of honour and gave us the "thumbs up"!

It's amazing what you can do with some cardboard, paint and determination!
